BSO Accreditation + Global Gold Medals: How Harrow Shenzhen Students Excel Across the Board

Academic excellence is an important component of BSO accreditation. Harrow Shenzhen students have demonstrated their capabilities by competing alongside some of the brightest young minds from around the world.

· British Biology Olympiad (BBO): Savina, Ann, and Ingrid (Year 9) won three Global Gold medals. Despite competing against older students, Ingrid still won a Gold medal.

· UK Chemistry Olympiad (UKChO): Seven students participated, achieving a 100% success rate with 1 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. One student was also selected for the Cambridge University St Catharine’s College Chemistry Summer School.

· UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge (IMC): 7 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. William (Year 8) and Eason (Year 10) qualified for the Cayley/Hamilton Olympiad rounds.

· AMC (American Mathematics Competition): William attained the school’s highest score, placing in the top 25% globally.

· Physics Olympiad (IPC/SPC): All 28 participating students won awards, including 4 Gold, 14 Silver and 10 Bronze medals). Six students advanced to the BPhO China Training Camp.

· Math Kangaroo Team Challenge: Lower School pupils won 3 National Golds and three National Silvers, and 4 students are qualified for the Asian Championships.

· NEC/BPA National Finals: Bill won National Individual Gold in the Business Roadshow and advanced to the Global Finals. Sunny also won an Individual Gold award. Meanwhile, Vincent attained a perfect score in Microeconomics, earning an ‘Economic Hall of Fame’ honour alongside a Silver medal. The Harrow Shenzhen NEC team won a National Bronze medal. Yolanda received both the Global Insight Leader Award and the Critical Communication Award, advancing to the Asian Round of the International Economics Olympiad.

· Cambridge Economics & Finance Challenge (CEFC): All participants advanced to the Global Finals. Frank won an Excellence Award (Top 5% globally), while Feifei won a Gold Award (Top 15% globally).

· Harrow Shenzhen Lower School students stood out among more than 100,000 participants worldwide in the Hippo English Olympiad, winning 12 first prizes and 16 second prizes. In the All‑Star Round, five students won double gold awards in Writing and Spelling.

· Ingrid (Year 9) also won a Bronze award (Top 20% globally) in the Harvard International Review Writing Competition.

From STEM to the humanities, from economics to English, Harrow Shenzhen students have demonstrated exactly what BSO accreditation means by ‘academic excellence’.

Academic achievement is only part of the story. Leadership and holistic education are at the heart of Harrow Shenzhen. BSO accreditation places strong emphasis on student wellbeing and character – areas in which our students truly stand out.

· Angel (Year 5) and LP (Year 4) both won First Prize in the Shenzhen division of the Oxford International Piano Competition, advancing directly to the UK final. Angel also received the ‘Star Student Award’ for Grade 4 RAD Ballet.

· In the preliminary round of the 12th Melbourne International Music Competition, Olivia and LP both won first prize in the Children’s Free Choice Piece category and were invited to advance to the global finals.

· Angela (Year 1) was awarded the 3rd Prize in Group Ballet of the 16th Overseas Peach Cup Guangdong Preliminary.

· At the Guangzhou Equestrian Competition, Annabelle competed in three levels – 60cm, 80cm and 90cm – showing steady improvement and finishing 2nd in the 60cm category and 3rd in the 90cm category. At the Nanning competition, Milo competed in four levels from 30cm to 110cm, ultimately winning Champion in the 90cm Challenge (U14) and Team Champion. Alexandra joined the equestrian competition in Dongguang and she won the 60 CM first place.

· Karl (Year 12) won 7 gold medals across 6 events at the Hong Kong International Martial Arts Competition and has been invited to represent China at the Asian Arm Wrestling Championship.

· 23 Upper school students embarked on a five-day trek through the snowy mountains of Western Sichuan, carrying heavy packs while learning outdoor survival skills. They will receive the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (Bronze/Silver).

· At the AISL Harrow Huasheng Cup Championship (Greater Bay Area round), Harrow Shenzhen students won multiple titles in recitation, public speaking, writing, and summit forums. The school was also honoured with the Team Excellence Gold Award, earning the title of overall grand champion.

· The ‘Inspire Me’ event, started by Harrow Shenzhen students to support people with intellectual disabilities, is now in its third year. This year, students collaborated with other schools to set up 14 activity stalls, welcoming a group of special children to the campus and offering them genuine companionship and joy.

BSO accreditation is valuable because it is not a one‑off test. Instead, it is a continuous evaluation that ensures a school consistently meets the standards of leading independent schools in England.
