Harrow Shenzhen offers a wide and diverse range of activities which generally take place between 14:50 and 15:50 every day (Pre-prep 14:50~15:40, Upper School 14:50~15:50). Pupils from Year 1 upwards are expected to participate in a minimum of two activity sessions per week (boarders need to do four). Activities are geared toward the acquisition of motor skills for younger pupils with sporting and thinking activities both inside and outside of the classroom and we continue this development as pupils participate in sports teams and other activities in the Upper School. There are well over 50 different activities per season for pupils to choose from which includes a range of activities from sporting, music and performance, to STEM, creativity and community service. Activities vary according to the season and an up-to-date list is published in the weeks before pupils sign up online for the season.
The Leadership and Service Activities provides opportunity for students to demonstrate leadership and service, including:
- The LSA programme (including student-led activities)
- Leadership and service expeditions and trips
- The Shaftesbury Enterprise (Charity Committee)
- Community and Service projects
- The JASS Junior Achievement Award
- The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
- Academic enrichment and the Super-Curriculum
- House competitions and events
- Student leadership roles (the Student Council and House Leaders)
In order to complete the Leadership & Service Curriculum, we would encourage students to participate in a range of activities across the academic year.
The Leadership and Service Activities encourages participation and offers opportunities to develop and hone the six Leadership Attributes (iRules) of all Harrow Schools:
- Contributing positively to the community (iCare)
- Applying knowledge with compassion (iCare Global)
- Solving problems collaboratively (iTeam up)
- Solving problems creatively (iCreate)
- Making just and responsible choices (iRespect)
- Facing challenges with determination (iGo for it)
Leadership and Service Activities provides a means to encourage participation and traces this participation according to the six leadership attributes (iRules) of all Harrow Schools.
