In an era defined by digital connectivity,
young individuals enjoy unprecedented
social reach. However, genuine
emotional depth often remains elusive.
Amidst constant notifications and
information overload, authentic connections
have become increasingly rare and valuable.
It is within this context that the narratives of Harrow Shenzhen boarders take on particular significance.
Consider Kitty, who transferred from a prestigious UK private school and found here a community that surpasses the warmth of any virtual network. Similarly, Morris, a student from Macau, has spent six years transforming from an uncertain adolescent into a confident student leader.

Their journeys exemplify what Harrow Shenzhen boarding represents in today’s fast-paced world. Amidst the dichotomy of connection and isolation, we prioritise authentic presence and foster a spiritual home where every child finds a sense of belonging.

From the UK to Shenzhen: An Enhanced Boarding Experience
When Kitty moved from a renowned British private school to Harrow Shenzhen last year, she discovered that the boarding experience here preserves the essence of British education and infuses it with rich cultural vibrancy.
Kitty
I’ve found the community here to be even more engaging. It has a wider variety of activities than my previous school. I quickly connected with new friends. The overall environment feels very supportive, enhanced by better food and genuinely friendly staff.

Harrow Shenzhen boarders enjoy a comprehensive support system, available both online and offline. This ensures that academic assistance is always accessible.
Kitty
Our core schedule includes supervised study sessions in the library from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Monday through Thursday. These sessions are highly productive. I often study alongside my roommates, and we frequently collaborate on problems. When we need further clarification, teachers are accessible through two main channels. For immediate assistance, we can send a message via Microsoft Teams and receive a prompt online response. For more in-depth discussions, we also have the option of meeting teachers after school for face-to-face conversations. These meetings are invaluable for tackling complex questions.
At 9 PM, the boarding house radiates warmth. Kitty, now in Year 10, has just finished her evening study. She is reminiscing with her roommates about the recent Halloween party, with upcoming ski trips and Christmas celebrations on the horizon.

The boarding activities at Harrow Shenzhen helped me adjust quickly– I never feel alone here.

From Macau to Shenzhen:
Unlocking Boundless Potential
Through Boarding
Morris, originally from Macau, is one of the founding boarders of Harrow Shenzhen. Over six years of boarding life, he has transformed from a shy boy into the current Boarding House Captain.
Morris
Over the years, I have learnt to balance academics, extracurriculars, and leadership responsibilities, from participating in boarding council meetings to planning events. Now, as Boarding House Captain, I not only manage myself but also guide younger boarders in developing their own structure and independence.
Having transitioned from a managerial role to a leadership position, Morris now oversees facilities, safety, and catering. He ensures that boarders’ voices are heard and their welfare is prioritised.

For students from Hong Kong and Macau, boarding at Harrow Shenzhen offers an ideal combination: access to international education without a daily commute and the convenience of weekend returns home. I work closely with staff and prefects on areas such as facilities management, safeguarding, and food safety. I ensure that boarders’ voices are heard and their wellbeing is prioritised.
Morris
We’ve built a community that feels like family, where everyone looks out for one another. This environment has shaped me into a more responsible leader. It has also helped me deeply value teamwork, empathy, and the shared experience of living and learning together.

The Educator’s Perspective:
The Profound Value of Boarding
Carol Yeung
Director of Boarding
Our annual PASS (Pupil Attitudes to Self and School) survey last year revealed that our boarders have a very positive attitude towards school. This sense of wellbeing is closely linked to academic success. Our boarders also demonstrated strong progress in English and value-added exam results. This confirms that boarding at Harrow Shenzhen is indeed a truly transformative educational journey.
Drawing on 450 years of Harrow’s
tradition of holistic education,
boarding at Harrow Shenzhen offers
more than just convenience – it
embodies a true home away from home.
At Harrow Shenzhen, every student
is recognised, valued, and supported.
We nurture both academic excellence
and personal development.
