A Shift in Thinking:
From Seeking Direction
to Defining His Own Path
Jacky
Class of 2026
Harrow Shenzhen taught me how to think, not what to think.
Jacky reflects on his growth. When he first arrived, he was thirsty for knowledge but also felt constrained by the standard-answer mindset of traditional education.
Here, he was encouraged to question assumptions, draw connections across subjects, and learn how to manage his time. This change in educational approach helped Jacky recognise that curiosity and creativity hold far greater value than rote memorisation.

I began to realise that learning isn’t about passive absorption—it’s about active exploration. Math is no longer just a set of formulas; it’s a language for understanding the world.

Leadership Forged Through Diversity and Consensus Building
In Harrow Shenzhen’s international environment, Jacky underwent a profound transformation. While leading a student club, he encountered significant disagreements among team members from different cultural backgrounds.

I used to think leadership meant being the smartest person in the room. However, I soon learnt that real leadership is about bringing people together.
Balancing different personalities, resolving conflicts, and keeping the team motivated under tight deadlines—these challenges fostered a maturity in Jacky beyond his years. He evolved from a student searching for direction into a young leader with a clear understanding of his own values and potential.

I’ve always believed that if I’m fortunate enough to receive a quality education, I should strive to make the world a better place. I want to use mathematics to create meaningful impact—whether through innovation, research, or problem-solving—and ultimately contribute to society.

The Road to University:
Personalised Support
Harrow Shenzhen’s carefully designed university guidance system begins individualised planning as early as Year 7.
As a founding student, Jacky’s time at the school showcased his growth, which translated into strong teacher recommendations that presented a well-rounded and authentic picture of him to universities.
Jacky participated in various activities
When a USC admissions officer visited the school (Harrow Shenzhen being one of only two schools in Shenzhen selected for such a visit), Jacky impressed the officer with his poised, confident, and fluent bilingual interpretation during a parent admissions session.
“Harrow didn’t push me down a preset path,” Jacky reflects. “It gave me the tools and the confidence to walk my own.”
Jacky’s mother, Maggie, shares her
perspective on a Harrow Shenzhen education:
We feel confident entrusting our
child to Harrow because it fosters
well-rounded excellence.
This home-school partnership has
yielded remarkable results.
