As the new term begins,
parents of young children
often feel a mix of excitement and anxiety:
Will my child truly adapt, even if they cry a lot on their first day?
How will teachers support my child’s healthy growth?
How can families and schools build trusting communication?

At Harrow Shenzhen Early Years Centre (EYC), our Harrow Little Lions Curriculum is designed for children aged 2 to 5. Grounded in the latest educational research and aligned with the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, it nurtures children‘s confidence and development within an immersive English-language environment.

Challenge 1: How does a child grow into a confident “Lion Cub”?
Most children experience some separation anxiety when beginning pre-nursery. At Harrow Shenzhen, we recognise that tears and hesitation often signal a child’s unease with new surroundings. Overcoming this anxiety is an important step in growth—for both the child and the parent.

To ease this transition, we provide three key support systems:
1. Small class ratios: Each class is led by a UK-qualified teacher, a bilingual assistant, and a dedicated childcare specialist.
2. Evidence-based observation: Teachers record each child’s progress against EYFS standards to identify emotional and developmental needs.
3. Weekly progress updates: Parents receive regular feedback on their child’s cognitive and emotional development.

We foster a warm and nurturing environment where every child feels heard, cared for, and excited to come to school each day.

Challenge 2: What do children learn in the Early Years?

Our curriculum is designed to nurture well-rounded development across the following domains:
1. Mathematics
2. Social Development
3. Health and Hygiene
4. Literacy
5. Language Development (Home Language & English)
6. The Arts
7. Understanding the World
8. Sustainability & Environmental Awareness
9. Digital Knowledge & Awareness
10. Cultural Identity and Diversity

Our teachers bring over 20 years of experience. Among them, 52% hold master’s or doctoral degrees, and 94% of our international teachers are recruited from the UK or US.
This strong combination of a world-class curriculum and exceptional faculty ensures children experience a seamless transition into the British education system.

3: How can parents and teachers build a trusting partnership?
Starting pre-nursery is a significant milestone. At Harrow Shenzhen EYC, we go beyond reactive communication and focus on building strong partnerships through:

– Consistency Workshops
Teachers keep one-on-one records that track what children are truly learning. These records are not just reports for parents but tools to refine teaching strategies and personalise each child’s learning.

– An Inclusive International Community
Regular events, such as concerts, charity runs, and festivals, foster a close-knit, diverse community where every child thrives.
When parents actively participate, children feel proud to contribute as well.
